 Rebuilding
starting mid-March
The Chameleon Theatre Company has rehearsed and performed at the Ritchie
Memorial Hall for many years. The Hall is part of the Chandlers Ford Community
Association and was given to the community in memory of Dr. Duiguid Ritchie,
who had served the community as G.P. for many years.
The Hall itself was built in 1911, and the Community Association has
added two other halls, and many other improvements over the years. The
last five years have seen a new lobby for the Hall, new windows and doors
throughout the premises and disabled toilet facilities, including a wheelchair
ramp from the Hall.
Unfortunately, the lean-to building on the side of the Hall, affectionately
known as the Green Room, in proper theatre tradition, is nearing the end
of its useful life, and must be replaced within the next couple of years.
Without it, the Chameleon Theatre Company could not function: we use it
as a changing room, props store and coffee servery during productions,
and as additional rehearsal or a play reading room during the rest of
the year.
Plans are underway to replace this invaluable space, and to improve to
benefit the community as a whole, not just us thespians! However, the
Community Association's present funds are not enough. Chameleons are working
to raise money to contribute to the rebuilding. Fund raising events will
be advertised here, as will our progress. If you can help in any way,
please contact us via our feedback page, or call 023 80254027.
Chandlers Ford Community Association provides a meeting place for many
groups with diverse interests and always welcomes new members.
